The Eighth Technology Summit & Technology Platform was organised from 8 to 11 October 2002 at Hyderabad. APTDC - Andhra Pradesh Technology Development & Promotion Centre (an autonomous society promoted by CII, Govt. of AP & TIFAC) co-organised the Summit with Govt. of AP being the Partner State.

The Lead Overseas Participants this year were Taiwan & Thailand in the focus areas of Infotainment Electronics, Engineering & Machine Tools and Food Processing and Infrastructure respectively. Over 50 delegates from around 20 laboratories and industries were part of the overseas delegations. The growing importance of technology in the domestic scenario was evident with the Summit attracting over 400 delegates from within country and over 20 participants in the exhibition from industry and institutes.

Key speakers included Dr.Chintay Shih President, Industrial Technology Research Institute, Taiwan, Mr.Korn Dabbaransi Dy. Prime Minister, Thailand, Mr.Chandrababu Naidu Hon. Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Tai - Yang Huang, Vice President Institute for Information Industry, Taiwan, Mr. Ching-Yuan Lin, Manager, Mechanical Industry Research Labs, Taiwan and Prof. V S Ramamurthy, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.

The main features of this year’s Summit was CII-AP ‘Award for Best Innovative Technology Development - 2002’ for SSI Category, awarded to SEC Industries Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad. This award was sponsored by APTDC.

For the first time this year, CII introduced Alliances Facilitation Services for participants of this year’s Technology Summit providing opportunity for Overseas and Indian participants to foster Technology Partnerships. As a result of concerted effort put up by CII and APTDC team, a JV agreement was signed between M/s Leonics Co. Ltd., Thailand and M/s Switching Circuit Pvt. Ltd., Kolkotta for technology licensing of special UPS systems on the first day of the Summit.
